Five Fun Facts About the Partners Statue at Magic Kingdom Park | Disney Parks Blog

For me, Walt Disney World has had such a special place in my heart my entire life. I have been to Walt Disney World multiple times and each time gets better. I truly believe it is the happiest place on earth. Walt Disney really was such a caring and wonderful human. He changed so many lives and he is still doing so everyday, especially mine. This statue resonates with me because while Walt Disney was not a nurse, he changed and “healed” so many people. He really cared about the people he was welcoming to Walt Disney World and it feels like a safe space for many. As he is holding Mickey Mouses’ hand, I feel a sense of safety and warmth. I believe I can have an influence on someones life just like how Walt Disney has on mine and millions of others.

  1. Laura,

I love that you chose an art piece that was so close to your heart, and something that helped shape your life. Your choice was similar to mine in a way. You chose a statue that depicted Walt Disney holding Mickey Mouse’s hand, and I chose a painting that portrayed one person taking another’s hand to help them to the top of a mountain. This goes to show that the image of “helping hands” is strongly associated with the nursing career.

    You did a great job!

  2. Laura, it never ceases to amaze me how a sculptor can make bronze seem so alive and real. I agree this statue, which I have seen a number of times, shows a great deal of caring. How wonderful to compare nursing and Disney…great comparison!

  3. I really like your analogy Laura! I honestly never thought of Walt Disney this way, I have only thought of the movies and such. While our posts are not entirely the same, they have a close connotation of how some people give more of themselves to others than they do to themselves.

  4. This is really sweet! Walt Disney, like you said, wasn’t a nurse, but through his creativity he was able to bring smiles to millions of faces across generations. We can look at nursing the same way, we have the opportunity to make people smile through what can seem like their darkest times through our care. The art in nursing is being able to take a step back from the science of it all and focusing on the humanity aspect. The best nurses are always the one who can put a smile on their patient’s face despite anything that may not be worth smiling over. As nurses, we have the chance to be the Walt Disney to our patients by being creative in the way we care for them. This is similar to the art piece I chose, where I noted that nurses have to ability to work with many different personalities and how we can do our best provide the best possible care to our patients, to hopefully help them feel positively in the end.
